Bear

Hello again everybody, hope you all had a nice Christmas!

Here is a bear that I drew today. Unfortunately it looks like he is a cross between an Ewok and an egg.

Farm

Here's a farm I did a few days ago, again for the estate agent brochure.
And as an early Christmas present to you all, CHICKEN!

My Little Town

Here's another possible image for the estate agents brochure thing!

(And for anyone who's interested, the post title is a reference to Simon & Garfunkel)

Countryside!

Haven't posted anything for a few weeks, so...

Here's a little work in progress thing I'm doing for an estate agent brochure. It might not be suitable, but I like it anyway.

Red Bull Canimation Final Entry

Hello again.
Above is my finished entry for the Red Bull Canimation competition.
If you 'Like' it, comment on it or share it around then that can all help me win the competition, which I would very much like to do.
As an incentive, if I win then I will teach you how I did such an 'amazing' run cycle! Worth it's weight in gold I think you'll agree.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Some More 'Mars Is No Fun' Work

This is probably how the chorus in my 'Mars Is No Fun' video will be animated. I still need to tweak a few timings though, and need to do some colour correction on it.

Look At This Little Face

I've been trying a bit of a different style of animation this weekend, I would have done more, but had other things to attend to, like playing hockey and writing a Christmas/birthday list. When I've got the Red Bull animation done, I'm going to focus on developing this style a bit more. Hope you like it, and bear in mind it's only a rough practice/test!

Red Bull Canimation

Having seen the advert in the cinema the other day, I have decided to enter the Red Bull Canimation competition. Basically, you've got to create an advert for Red Bull taking the can as inspiration. I found out about it a bit late, and only have to the 15th of November to do it.

I did a little bit of work on it this evening, the results of which you can see above. Please bear in mind that I haven't animated a four legged run cycle in four years, and even then it wasn't very good. And I know the body, head and tail need to move some more, but hey it's a start! (If you right-click on the video and press LOOP you can see him run forever!)

More soon! (Hopefully)

'Mars Is No Fun' Animation Test

The other day (yesterday?) I mentioned I was doing a bit of animation for a music video. Well here we go:

It's for a song called 'Mars Is No Fun' by the French singer Camille. I'm not being paid to do it, I'm just a massive fan of hers, and really like this song. The bit of animation is only rough, so I can figure out style and the design, so don't be too critical. There will be more soon!

PS: I recently set up a more professional looking portfolio site HERE. Perhaps you should go and have a look at it? That'd be nice. Ta.

Have I Got News For You? Yes.

Aloha,

If you remember my 'The Walking Dead' poster from a month or two ago, then it may interest you to know that it was featured on a website called Minimal Movie Posters. Very nice of them to have put it up there, and so far it seems to have been pretty popular with over 1100 'notes'. So, thank you very much to them!

Have a look at it here.

I'm still doing some work on the Bottoms Up brief, and here's a little look at what I'm up to:

Also, started doing some animating for a music video, with perhaps another one in the pipeline, maybe...

13 Oct 2011

I was asked by Willkommen Records, a record label and music collective, to design a map which showed how members of the collective all played in different bands.
I thought the best way of showing this was in the style of a tube map.
To see it bigger, click here

'Bottoms Up' & Bristol's Big Green Week

Hello hello.
Last week I went to a briefing meeting for an exhibition and short film called 'Bottoms Up'.

The brief is to produce two humorous images about changing our lifestyle choices today to help prevent extreme climate change. The project is for the Forum for the Future and will be exhibited at theTobacco Factory in Bristol early next year.

We were also asked to design a logo for Bristol's Big Green Week, a week long event in Bristol promoting environmental causes and sustainability etc.

Above is my logo design so far. Any opinions are welcomed!

I'm Still Alive

I've not posted anything in almost a month, so hello again!

Someone asked me to some designy stuff for their website, and gave me a pretty much open brief. Which is nice.

This is what I've come up with so far:

I need to fiddle around with the arrangement of the different bits, so that the content on the website can be in the middle with room for a header at the top, and obviously so you can still see the house etc at the bottom. I know what I mean even if you don't.

I tried an experiement, making an animated backgroundwith some smoke coming out of a chimney, but I'm not sure about it yet, not sure it's really worth it. Though if I add in someflying birds it might be a bit more interesting.

The Walking Dead Poster

In a change to my current form of drawing french actresses, I have created a poster for TV series The Walking Dead. The first series was brilliant, and the next series can't come soon enough!

~UPDATE~

So after quite of lot of requests, and me taking ages to get around to it, you can now buy prints of my The Walking Dead poster! How exciting!

They're printed in full colour on 130gsm A3 silk stock, and at only £10including postage, they're pretty neat.

If you wish you can buy one from my newly created shop page here:http://joecollins.bigcartel.com/

(PS: If you do order one, bear with me while I figure out how to use Big Cartel!)

Moleskine Portraits

More moleskine sketches. Above is Mélanie Laurent, and below is Eva Green.

Clémence Poésy Painting

As I have a bit of a thing for pretty much any French actress going, here is a painting of Clémence Poésy. And here's a comparison from initial drawing to painting for anyone who's interested.

Painty

The drawing I did the other day of Felicity Jones, has now been water-coloured. I'm really pleased with how it turned out, but my scanner made it look a bit harsher and more vivid than it actually is.
My faith in water colours has been restore somewhat, while my scanner faith is waning.

Moleskine #2

Some more stuff from my Moleskine sketchbook. The actress Felicity Jones and a random woman

Mechanical Bride Illustration

Recently I did an illustration for the online magazine ‘Amelia’s Magazine

The illustration is of Lauren Doss AKA Mechanical Bride and her debut album has recently been released.

Check out the interview here.

Wordcore Website Design

My good buddy Andy Johnson asked me to redesign his website a bit. This is the result. He wanted it similar to the Folk* Connections piece I did a few months ago.
Go and see the real thing and check out Andy's reviews and musings here: www.wordcore.co.uk

Moleskine #1

Bought a new moleskine sketchbook last week at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, which was very good, and this is the first drawing in it. I hate starting off sketchbooks as I don't want to do a rubbish drawing on the first page of a new sketchbook, especially if it's a nice expensive moleskine.
Anyway, I was pleased with this picture, so the moleskine lives to fight another day.

E4 Stings Competition Entry

So here's my entry. If anyone would be as kind as to give me some feedback before I properly upload it onto the E4 website, then I'd be very grateful!

9 Jun 2011

E4 Stings Competition

So I decided to enter the annual E4 Stings competition. I haven't done any animation in ages, so this should be interesting.
Here's part of what I've done so far:

Expect more in the next few days!

6 Jun 2011

Daily Landscapes

In order to keep myself drawing, I've decided to set myself a little challenge.
Every day I am going to create a background/landscape image. I don't do backgrounds or landscapes very often so this should be good practice. If you understand that, then here's the first one:

And as a special treat, here's a bonus background that is part of an animation I'm working on:

Let me know what you think, and stay tuned for more Daily Landscapes!

29 May 2011

Stuff Stuff Stuff

Here's some more recent bits and pieces:

Have been doing a few website designs for the same chap I did the music video for last year, these are the results so far:

And here's another picture of one of the members of Warpaint, Emily Kokal. I did some ACTUAL painting for the first time in probably 4 years. Going to try and do some more painting

There you go then, hope everyone is fine and dandy!

Sherlock

Aloha again,

Today I have drawn Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman in their roles as Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson from the BBC series!

20 May 2011

New Showreel

Aloha,

I have made a new showreel, and if you'd be so kind as to have a look at it, I'd be very grateful.

Merci

Villagers Portrait

In what is becoming a regular/constant occurrence, I have drawn another band/musician.
This time it is Villagers, and their album 'Becoming A Jackal'. Though in my picture it looks a bit were-wolfish, probably from watching too much Being Human. But there you go. Hope you like it!

11 Feb 2011

Newsy News

I did this picture the other day:

It's a picture showing how pretty much all of my favourite bands and musicians are connected to each other.
It seems to have been quite popular with over 455 views on Flickr, and two of the bands featured posted it on their Facebook profile things here and here. This is by far quite the most recognition I've got for any work I've done.
Due to popular demand, I am extending it to feature many more bands; so if you like it, watch this space!

And also, this picture has led to another rather interesting opportunity, but I'll tell you more about that later.

8 Feb 2011

Enough With The Pictures of Bands Already!

Or should I say duo rather than band.
Here's Simon & Garfunkel:

Again part of a bigger picture, which will be finished soon! Stay tuned!

31 Jan 2011

All I Do Is Draw Bands...

...and that won't get me an animation job now will it. Hey ho.
Anyway, here's Noah and the Whale, one of my all time favourite bands.

I'm planning on using this style for a bigger more interesting idea soonish. So keep your eyes peeled. If you want to of course, I'm not gonna force you.

25 Jan 2011

Warpaint Portraits!

So I have finished the series of Warpaint portraits I was doing. I was only doing them for fun, but I'm pretty pleased with them. You can see two of them in the previous post, but here's the final two and a compilation picture of all of them.

Jenny Lee Lindberg
Stella Mozgawa
And all of them together!

Hope you like them!

19 Jan 2011

It's Been a While...

Its been a long time since I posted anything and for that I apologise. Haven't done too much work as of late, I'm afraid. Or should I say I haven't done much work of any quality. Until now...ha
I'm a fan of a band called Warpaint, who you may have heard of. (If not go here)
Anyway, I decided to draw the band members. So far I have got two done, and here they are:

Emily Kokal
Theresa Wayman

As usual, I'm sure there was something else of interest to say, but I can't remember it
